Benefits of Becoming a Notary

Notary publics are necessary for a number of tasks that protect you from identity theft and fraud. In fact, many individuals have started businesses as notaries, and most businesses have an in-house professional. These are some benefits of seeking a commission.

Added Skillset for Your Resume

Many industries, including finance, medical, government, insurance, legal, technology and banking, use notaries. Therefore, as you pursue your commission, your resume becomes more attractive to future employers. Employers need individuals with notary commissions to provide signature verification services for the company, management and other employees, so this skillset is valued. You may even provide services for local banks, photocopying services and shipping companies.

Increased Income

One of the best things about seeking your commission is that it is independent of any business. It belongs to you. Your notary stamps and other supplies are yours, not your company’s. This means that you are responsible for securing them, but it also means that you can use them outside your company. You can offer your services to many other companies and individuals.

Although the industry sets the standard on the amount you can charge, typically somewhere between $10 and $20 per signature, you can also recoup your traveling expenses. However, if you are a notary signing agent, you may be hired regularly by title companies, which increases your income.

Flexible Schedule

If you serve as an employee, your schedule is typically determined by your manager and the company you work for. However, if you choose to be a business owner, providing independent contractor notary public services to individuals and businesses, you can choose your hours. You can work in the evenings or on the weekends for individuals, or you can choose a schedule that takes advantage of the time your children are in school. Your schedule is flexible because you are the one selling the service.

If you are looking for a flexible schedule, increased income or added skills, consider the benefits of becoming a notary public.
