Anheuser Busch is Being Sued for Watered Down Beer and Mislabeled Alcohol Content

Recently, Maker’s Mark had to deal with the conspiracy that their bourbon was watered down. Now Anheuser-Busch is being accused of watering down their beers. The beer giant is responsible for Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob, King Cobra, etc. A class action lawsuit has been filed against the company that is a part of InBev, which hopes to garner $5 million. The claim is that the beer is watered down so the alcohol content that is stated is not the actual amount in the beverages.

A-B completely denies all these claims and says that they correctly label all of their products. They have released a statement vehemently discussing the importance and popularity of their brand and the honesty of their company’s policy.

The lawsuit, whether won or lost, will affect the company’s future because even if beer drinks can’t tell the difference between watered down beer and regular beer, the perception will skew their interpretation.

InBev will need to fight this case with gusto to avoid the label of lying, scheming beer sellers. The firm has been accused of changing recipes for cost effective reasons in the past, and this new claim and lawsuit does not help settle the issue at all.

Anyone that enjoys beer and has even the slightest taste for the beverage can tell that Budweiser, et al. are watery, lighter beers that are made cost efficiently and consumed by cost reducing consumers. Those who do not notice the lightness and watery taste will probably not be affected by this claim. However, most people drink beer for the alcohol content and not just the taste. A misleading label and lower alcohol content can get more people up in arms about this piece of news. Hopefully, the litigation will cause a headache for the company and they will change their products accordingly. If the plaintiffs are wrongly claiming this, the company should win out. Either way, a resolution will clear up the status of the company and its future.
